Personal Protect is ICICI Lombard's individual personal accident policy. It pays a lump sum if an accident kills you or leaves you permanently and totally disabled, and the amount is the sum insured you pick, from ₹3 lakh up to ₹25 lakh. You choose a tenure of 1, 3 or 5 years. Two optional covers can be added on top: reimbursement of accidental hospitalisation expenses, and a daily cash allowance for each day you are in hospital. It covers accidents only. Illness, disease and hospital stays that do not start with an injury are outside the policy, so it sits next to a health policy and does not replace one. Anyone aged 18 to 80 can buy it, and ICICI Lombard says no medical tests are needed. ICICI Lombard's current product sheet also lists permanent partial disablement, temporary total disablement, convalescence and double benefit among the covers, plus extensions such as funeral expenses, ambulance charges and a children's education grant. The amounts for these sit in the policy schedule, so ask for it before you buy.
Accidental death and disability cover with optional hospitalisation expenses
Finzony sees Personal Protect as a simple, low-effort accident safety net. A health policy pays hospital bills, but nothing in it replaces your income if an accident takes your life or leaves you unable to work. Personal Protect fills that gap with a fixed lump sum that does not depend on bills, and it has no medical test, a wide entry age of 18 to 80 and a tenure of up to 5 years, which saves yearly renewals. For people who drive a lot, travel often or work in riskier jobs, that is a sensible, cheap add-on. The limits matter more than the headline sum insured. The two optional covers are small. In ICICI Lombard's brochure the hospitalisation limit runs from ₹10,000 on the ₹3 lakh option to ₹1 lakh on the ₹20 and ₹25 lakh options, and the daily allowance is ₹1,000 or ₹2,000 a day for at most 30 days, after a one-day deductible. Both work only when you are admitted within 7 days of the accident and stay at least 24 hours. They are a cushion, not a substitute for health cover. Two more points to read carefully. First, the brochure says the cover ends once a claim is paid under one of the main insured events, so a death or disability payout closes the policy. Second, the exclusions are the usual accident-policy list: self-injury, intoxication, breach of law, hazardous sports and occupations, war and nuclear events. Check the policy schedule for the benefits the current product sheet lists but the card does not, such as partial and temporary disablement, because their payouts are not stated in the sources we used.

If the insured dies because of an accident during the policy period, the nominee you declared is paid the sum insured.
Pays the sum insured for permanent and total loss of limbs or sight due to an accident within the policy period. This means loss of sight of both eyes, physical separation of both hands or both feet or one hand and one foot, or total and irreversible loss of use of both hands, both feet, or one hand and one foot.
ICICI Lombard's product sheet also counts a permanent total inability to work, as certified under the policy wording. Read the exact definition in the wording.
Choose ₹3 lakh, ₹5 lakh, ₹10 lakh, ₹15 lakh, ₹20 lakh or ₹25 lakh as the sum insured for death and permanent total disablement.
Sum insured can be raised only at renewal, subject to underwriting approval.
You can buy the policy for 1, 3 or 5 years. A longer tenure means fewer renewals to remember.
The renewal premium is subject to change with IRDAI approval. If you cancel a multi-year policy, the refund depends on which year you cancel in.
Anyone from 18 to 80 years can buy the policy, and it can be renewed for life with no maximum renewal age.
Renewal can be refused on grounds of fraud, moral hazard, misrepresentation or non-cooperation. The policy also cannot be renewed after a claim ends the cover. Proposals are assessed on age, occupation, sum insured and financial eligibility.
Reimburses medical expenses during a hospital stay that arises from an injury, up to the limit for the sum insured you opted, when the admission starts within 7 days of the accident.
Minimum stay of 24 hours. It is paid on a reimbursement basis and needs bills, prescriptions and discharge papers.
Pays a fixed amount for each day you are in hospital after a covered accident: ₹1,000 a day on the ₹3 lakh and ₹5 lakh options, and ₹2,000 a day on the ₹10 lakh options and above, for up to 30 days.
This is an accident cover, so illness waiting periods do not apply. The time conditions that do exist are: accidental hospitalisation is paid only if the admission starts within 7 days of the accident and lasts at least 24 hours, and the daily allowance has a deductible of 1 day for each hospitalisation. The renewal grace period is 30 days, and no claim is covered during the grace period itself.
Conditions or treatments that the policy clearly says it will not cover.
