ICICI Lombard MaxProtect is a high sum insured indemnity health plan. Cover starts at ₹1 crore and goes up to unlimited, in two versions. Classic is the base version for hospital treatment in India. Premium adds worldwide cover, air ambulance, home care treatment, Claim Protector, a yearly health check-up and a second opinion for critical illness. Both versions pay for inpatient care, day care procedures, twelve listed modern treatments, 60 days of pre-hospitalisation, 180 days of post-hospitalisation, AYUSH treatment, domiciliary treatment, organ donor hospitalisation, road ambulance and unlimited teleconsultation. The reset benefit refills the sum insured as many times as needed in a policy year, and a Loyalty Bonus adds 20% for each claim-free year, up to 100%. It is built for very large hospital bills, not for everyday costs. There is no maternity or outpatient cover, and reset does not apply to the first claim of a year or to an illness that has already been paid. Adults can join from 21 to 65 years, and the policy can run for 1, 2 or 3 years.
Starts at ₹1 crore, with unlimited sum insured options
Finzony reads MaxProtect as a plan with one job: making sure a very large hospital bill does not run into a ceiling. A sum insured that starts at ₹1 crore, with an unlimited option, is far above the cover most people buy. Whether you need it depends on your city, your family and what you already hold. If you have a ₹10 to ₹25 lakh base plan, compare this with a super top-up before paying for a ₹1 crore base. The reset benefit is the headline, so read it closely. ICICI Lombard's pages describe an unlimited reset, but the policy wording sets conditions. It is not triggered by the first claim of the year, it applies only to inpatient and day care claims, and it is not available for an illness or related complication that has already been paid in that policy year. In practice, reset protects you against a second, different hospitalisation. It does not refill cover for the same illness. The Loyalty Bonus, 20% a year up to 100%, can be used only after the annual sum insured is completely used up. ICICI Lombard lists neither reset nor the bonus as applicable on the unlimited sum insured option. Choose between Classic and Premium on what you will really use. Premium alone adds worldwide cover up to ₹3 crore (with a 2-year wait), air ambulance, home care treatment, Claim Protector for non-payable items, a health check-up and a second opinion for critical illness. The waiting periods are the usual retail clocks: 30 days, 90 days for hypertension, diabetes and cardiac conditions, 24 months for a named list and 36 months for pre-existing disease, which an optional cover can cut to 24. Maternity and outpatient costs are not covered at all, so keep another way to pay for those.

Both Classic and Premium start at a ₹1 crore annual sum insured, and unlimited cover is available as an option. The annual sum insured is the most the policy pays in one policy year, and you can choose a 1, 2 or 3-year term.
Reset and the Loyalty Bonus are listed as not applicable on the unlimited sum insured. The website says cover starts at ₹1 crore, while the rate chart also lists ₹50 lakh, so confirm the options on your quote.
Classic covers hospital treatment in India. Premium adds worldwide cover up to ₹3 crore, air ambulance, home care treatment up to ₹1 lakh, Claim Protector, a health check-up up to ₹10,000 a year and a second opinion for critical illness. Both carry the same reset benefit and Loyalty Bonus.
Premium-only covers are marked on each item below.
If earlier claims in a policy year leave the annual sum insured, with any bonus, too low, ICICI Lombard resets up to 100% of the annual sum insured for later claims, as many times as needed in that year.
It is not triggered by the first claim of the year, applies only to inpatient and day care claims, and is not available for an illness or related complication, including a relapse within 45 days, already paid that year for the same person. Unused reset is not carried forward, it does not work for worldwide cover, and it is not applicable on unlimited sum insured.
At the end of each policy year ICICI Lombard credits 20% of the expiring or renewed annual sum insured, whichever is lower, if the expiring policy was claim-free and renewed without a break. The total cannot go above 100% of the annual sum insured.
The policy wording calls it the Guaranteed Cumulative Bonus. It can be used only after the annual sum insured is completely exhausted. On a floater it accrues only if no member claimed. A later claim does not reduce the bonus already earned, and it is not available for worldwide cover, Claim Protector or unlimited sum insured.
Inpatient treatment covers room rent, ICU charges, nursing, doctor fees, anaesthesia, blood, oxygen, operation theatre charges, medicines, consumables, surgical appliances and prosthetic devices recommended in writing and used during surgery, and investigations linked to the admission, up to the annual sum insured.
The website lists a single private room for Classic and any room except a suite for Premium, while the brochure and wording schedule say any room except a suite. Your schedule is the final word. If you take a room above your entitlement, associated medical expenses are paid pro rata. ICU charges are not cut.
For an extra premium, the wait for declared and accepted pre-existing diseases and their direct complications drops from 36 months to 24 months of continuous cover.
It applies only to the conditions named in your schedule, and a fresh wait starts on any increase in sum insured. If you add a person with a pre-existing disease, the extra premium is compulsory. Time already served under a previous policy is credited.
For an extra premium, Classic policyholders can change the room category shown in their schedule.
Conditions or treatments that the policy clearly says it will not cover.
The conditions and procedures below sit behind the 24-month specified disease and procedure wait, even if they begin after the policy starts. Accident claims are not held to this wait, and if one of them is also a pre-existing disease, the longer wait applies. The list follows ICICI Lombard's MaxProtect policy wording, and the wording is the final reference.

ICICI Lombard Health Insurance plans and claim process
MaxProtect is a high sum insured indemnity health plan from ICICI Lombard. Cover starts at ₹1 crore and goes up to unlimited. It pays for hospital treatment, day care, modern treatments, AYUSH, pre- and post-hospitalisation and more, and it comes in two versions, Classic and Premium. It is aimed at people who want a very large cover from day one, and it does not cover maternity or outpatient costs.
Both versions share the same core cover, including the reset benefit and the Loyalty Bonus. Premium adds six covers that Classic does not have: worldwide cover up to ₹3 crore, air ambulance, home care treatment up to ₹1 lakh, Claim Protector, a health check-up up to ₹10,000 a year and a second opinion for critical illness. Only Classic can buy the Room eligibility option.

The wording does not list the room categories on offer, so ask what your quote includes. It is not available on Premium.
ICICI Lombard's website says the sum insured starts at ₹1 crore and goes up to unlimited, on both Classic and Premium. Reset and the Loyalty Bonus are listed as not applicable on the unlimited option. Its rate chart also shows lower options such as ₹50 lakh, so confirm the options on your quote.
If earlier claims in a policy year leave too little sum insured, ICICI Lombard resets up to 100% of the annual sum insured for later claims, as many times as needed in that year. It is not triggered by the first claim of the year and applies only to inpatient and day care claims. The policy wording says it is not available for an illness or related complication, including a relapse within 45 days, that has already been paid in that year for the same person. Unused reset does not carry forward.
At the end of each policy year ICICI Lombard adds 20% of the expiring or renewed annual sum insured, whichever is lower, if the expiring policy had no claim and was renewed without a break. The total is capped at 100% of the annual sum insured. The bonus can be used only after the annual sum insured is completely used up, and on a floater it builds up only if no member claimed. A claim in a later year does not reduce the bonus you already earned.
No. Childbirth, caesarean delivery, miscarriage unless an accident caused it, and lawful termination of pregnancy are excluded, with ectopic pregnancy as the one exception. Outpatient treatment is not covered either. You get unlimited teleconsultation on both versions and, on Premium, a health check-up up to ₹10,000 a year.
There is a 30-day initial wait for any illness, except accidents, which falls away after more than 12 months of continuous cover. Hypertension, diabetes and cardiac conditions have a 90-day wait unless declared as pre-existing. A named list of conditions, such as cataract, hernia, piles, stones and joint replacement, waits 24 months, except after an accident. Pre-existing diseases wait 36 months, or 24 months with the optional reduction cover. The policy wording lists a 36-month wait for bariatric surgery. Time already served on another Indian policy can be credited when you port.
Only on Premium. Worldwide cover pays for inpatient and day care treatment outside India up to the annual sum insured and a maximum of ₹3 crore, after a 2-year wait from the date the cover is opted. The wait does not apply to accidents or emergency care. It is for insured people up to age 65 who live in India, covers 45 days a trip and 90 days a policy year, and needs 7 days' notice and approval for planned treatment. Pre- and post-hospitalisation, the Loyalty Bonus and reset are not available under it. Classic does not cover treatment abroad.
The policy wording lists a zone-based co-payment. You choose a zone when you buy, and if you take treatment in a higher-priced zone than the one you paid for, you bear 8% or 16% of the claim. For example, with Zone B you pay 8% in Zone A or Zone D, and with Zone C you pay 16% in Zone A or Zone D and 8% in Zone B. Zone A and Zone D customers pay no zone-based co-payment anywhere in India. On rooms, Premium covers any room except a suite, while the website lists a single private room for Classic and the brochure says any room except a suite. If you take a room above your entitlement, associated medical expenses are paid pro rata. ICU charges are not cut. Your schedule is the final word on both.
Adults can join from 21 to 65 years. Children can be covered from 91 days on a family floater, or from 6 years on an individual policy, up to age 21 according to the brochure (the website says 20). You can cover your spouse, dependent children, brothers and sisters, dependent parents, grandparents, grandchildren, parents-in-law, son-in-law and daughter-in-law. A pre-policy medical check-up may be needed, and ICICI Lombard says it is generally required above age 45.
ICICI Lombard publishes a rate chart. For one adult aged 36 to 45 in Zone 1 at ₹1 crore, it shows ₹16,446 a year for Classic and ₹21,524 for Premium. For two adults aged 36 to 45 on a floater, it shows ₹22,846 for Classic and ₹31,739 for Premium. These are standard rates before any loading or discount. Premiums rise steeply with age, and the unlimited option costs more than ₹1 crore. Your zone, age band, sum insured, term and any optional cover decide your actual quote.
