SBI General Health Alpha is a build-your-own health plan. Instead of one fixed package, you start with a base cover, either Hospitalization Cover, Personal Accident or both, and then add what you need from 35 optional covers. The hospitalisation base pays for stays of more than 24 hours, day care procedures of 2 hours or more, AYUSH treatment, treatment at home, bariatric surgery after 24 months, and pre and post hospitalisation expenses for the number of days you choose. You can pick a base sum insured from ₹5 lakh to ₹3 crore, or an Unlimited Sum Insured, and a policy term of 1 to 5 years. After a claim-free year you can earn a Cumulative Bonus that builds up to 10 times your base sum insured, or take a guaranteed premium discount instead. Optional covers include Endless Sum Insured for one lifetime claim with no limit, Restore Benefit, Plan Ahead, Gym and Sports Injury Cover, maternity, OPD, Global Cover, Critical Illness and Hospital Daily Cash. You can also shorten the pre-existing, specified disease and maternity waiting periods.
Build your own cover from ₹5L to Unlimited, with Endless Sum Insured, a bonus of up to 10x and waiting periods you can shorten.
Finzony reads Health Alpha as a plan for informed buyers who like to design their own cover. Its strengths are the choices: a sum insured up to ₹3 crore or Unlimited, an Endless Sum Insured for one large lifetime claim, a bonus that can build up to 10 times your cover, waiting periods you can shorten, terms of up to 5 years with discounts of up to 14%, and unusual covers such as Gym and Sports Injury Cover and Plan Ahead. The flexibility has a price. Many benefits are separate options here, including Restore Benefit, modern treatments, home health care, maternity, OPD, ambulance and Consumables Cover. Endless Sum Insured needs a ₹10 lakh sum insured, ends after one claim, and cannot be used in the same policy year as Restore Benefit. Restore does not work with an Unlimited sum insured. SBI General does not publish a starting premium, so a quote is needed for your exact age and selected covers.
