SBI Life eShield Insta is an individual, non-linked, non-participating digital term plan with a fixed 10-year policy term. You choose between two options when you buy. Plan A is pure term insurance: if you die during the policy term while the policy is in force, your nominee receives the death benefit as a lump sum, and nothing is paid if you survive. Plan B is term insurance with return of premium: the same death benefit applies, and if you survive to the end of the term with the policy in force, you get back 100% of the total premiums paid under the base plan, excluding any extra premium and taxes. The sum assured can be between ₹10 lakh and ₹60 lakh, with the maximum subject to SBI Life's underwriting policy. Entry age is 18 to 50, and cover ends by age 60. You pay a regular premium for the full 10 years, yearly or monthly. The minimum yearly premium is ₹2,259 on Plan A and ₹10,735 on Plan B. The death benefit is the highest of the sum assured, 11 times the annualised premium, or 105% of the total premiums paid up to the date of death. SBI Life's customer information sheet names suicide in the first 12 months as the exclusion.
Digital-first plan with a pure term option and a term with return of premium option.
Finzony reads eShield Insta as a simple, short digital term plan. It has one fixed 10-year term, a ₹10 lakh to ₹60 lakh range and two clear options, so there is very little to configure. The leaflet shows ₹60 lakh of pure term cover at age 30 for ₹9,604 a year and ₹30 lakh at age 40 for ₹9,039 a year. Plan B returns your premiums, but the price is steep: in the leaflet, ₹25 lakh of return of premium cover at age 30 costs ₹21,758 a year, more than double the ₹9,604 that ₹60 lakh of pure term costs at the same age. Know the limits. Cover lasts only 10 years, ends by age 60, and is open only up to entry age 50. The top sum assured listed is ₹60 lakh, which may fall short for large liabilities. Plan A pays nothing if you outlive the term and has no surrender value, paid-up value or loan. Plan B gives a surrender value only after one full year of premiums, and a loan is limited to 50% of it. The leaflet and the customer information sheet list no rider, no increasing cover and no longer term. If you need cover beyond 10 years, above ₹60 lakh or with added benefits, compare it with SBI Life Smart Shield Premier or Smart Shield Plus before you decide.

SBI Life eShield Insta is an individual, non-linked, non-participating life insurance plan, described by SBI Life as a pure risk / savings product with return of premium. It is built as a digital plan with easy enrolment and swift policy processing.
Non-linked means your cover and any payout do not depend on market returns.
Choose Plan A (Pure Term Insurance) or Plan B (Term Insurance with Return of Premium) when you buy. Both pay the same death benefit during the policy term. Only Plan B pays something if you survive.
Plan B costs much more for the same sum assured.
If you die during the policy term while the policy is in force, your nominee receives the death benefit as a lump sum. There is no maturity benefit, no surrender benefit, no paid-up value and no policy loan.
Plan B pays the same death benefit as Plan A. If you survive to the end of the policy term and the policy is in force, 100% of the total premiums paid is returned to you as a maturity benefit.
Total premiums paid means premiums under the base product, excluding any extra premium and taxes.
If you die during the policy term while the policy is in force, your nominee gets the highest of: 11 times the annualised premium, the sum assured, or 105% of the total premiums paid up to the date of death. It is paid as a lump sum.
Annualised premium excludes taxes, rider premiums, underwriting extra premiums and loadings for modal premiums.
There is no waiting period for death cover. The only time-based condition named in the customer information sheet is the suicide clause: if the life assured dies by suicide within 12 months of the risk start date or the revival date, the nominee gets the higher of 80% of total premiums paid or the surrender value, instead of the death benefit. Plan A has no surrender value.
Conditions or treatments that the policy clearly says it will not cover.
Not applicable. This is a life cover plan with no list of illnesses. Death during the policy term is covered while the policy is in force, and the customer information sheet names suicide in the first 12 months as the exclusion.

It is an individual, non-linked, non-participating digital term plan from SBI Life Insurance with a fixed 10-year policy term. You choose between pure term insurance and term insurance with return of premium. The sum assured goes from ₹10 lakh to ₹60 lakh.
Plan A is pure term insurance: your nominee gets the death benefit if you die during the term, and nothing is paid if you survive. Plan B is term insurance with return of premium: the same death benefit applies, and if you survive the term you get back 100% of the total premiums paid under the base plan.
If you die during the policy term while the policy is in force, your nominee gets the highest of 11 times the annualised premium, the sum assured, or 105% of the total premiums paid up to the date of death. It is paid as a lump sum.

The aforementioned ratios have been averaged over three years (FY24-FY26)
Under Plan A, no. Under Plan B, yes: if you survive to the end of the 10-year term and the policy is in force, 100% of the total premiums paid is returned. This excludes any extra premium and taxes. In the leaflet, a Plan B premium of ₹21,758 a year for 10 years returns ₹2,17,580.
The minimum yearly premium is ₹2,259 on Plan A and ₹10,735 on Plan B. In the leaflet, ₹60 lakh of pure term cover at age 30 costs ₹9,604 a year, and ₹25 lakh of return of premium cover at age 30 costs ₹21,758 a year. Your own premium depends on your age, sum assured and plan option.
The leaflet lists sum assured options from ₹10 lakh to ₹60 lakh, in steps of ₹5 lakh, with the maximum subject to SBI Life's underwriting policy. The policy term is fixed at 10 years.
Entry age is 18 to 50, and the maximum age at maturity is 60. Ages are as on last birthday.
You pay a regular premium for the whole 10-year policy term. You can pay yearly or monthly, and the monthly premium is 8.5% of the yearly premium. There is no limited pay or single pay option.
The exclusion named in the customer information sheet is suicide within 12 months of the risk start date or the revival date. In that case the nominee gets the higher of 80% of total premiums paid or the surrender value, instead of the death benefit. Plan A has no surrender value.
You get 30 days to pay a yearly premium and 15 days for monthly. If the premium is not paid in time, Plan A lapses. Plan B lapses only if the first policy year's premiums are not paid in full, and becomes paid-up after that. A lapsed policy can be revived during the revival period by paying overdue premiums and proving continued insurability.
Plan A has no surrender value and no loan. Plan B can be surrendered once one full year of premiums has been paid, and the higher of the Guaranteed Surrender Value or Special Surrender Value is paid. A Plan B loan can be up to 50% of the surrender value.
You have 30 days to review the policy and cancel it if the terms do not suit you. The policy document explains how the refund is worked out.
The leaflet and the customer information sheet list no rider and no increasing cover. Your choices are Plan A or Plan B, the sum assured, and yearly or monthly premiums.
eShield Insta has a fixed 10-year term, a ₹10 lakh to ₹60 lakh range, entry up to age 50 and an optional return of premium plan. Smart Shield Premier starts at ₹2 crore, has entry up to age 60, covers up to age 85, and has no maturity benefit.
The nominee informs SBI Life of the death and submits the claim form and documents listed on the SBI Life website. The toll-free helpline is 1800 267 9090 (24x7). You may get income tax benefits under the applicable laws, and the leaflet notes that individual life insurance is exempt from GST from 22 September 2025.
